Day06: Rigging in Houdini

Continued working on setting up my shoelace as the main character.
Watched video tutorials on setting up bones and custom controls, parenting controls and linking controls to bones etc.

Here is my attempt on rigging up my shoelaces.
  • For now I've only position the bones.
  • Added controls for every bone.

Screen-shots

I'll probably re-rig due to the fact that my root bone is located at the tail location.
It should probably at the center(body) location so that it's easier to control.
Right now when my tail rotates the whole chain including body and head to rotate, which I don't want.
The better way should be to break the chain into two direction, one facing towards camera(the head of the shoelace) and the other facing down towards the end(tail).

Next is to capture the geometry to the bones.
The capture without any weighting yet.

Deformation looks good so far, as it was a very simple geometry.

Did more research on rigs, mainly snake rigs.

Here is a rig setup that I'm referencing, It has controls that the user could move and the geometry will deformed as intended.

That's what I need in my rig.
